Thanks to end-to-end encryption, WhatsApp is already pretty secure. Only you — or someone with access to your device — can read your messages. But there is a quick and easy way to bolster that protection.
By enabling Face ID or Touch ID for WhatsApp on iOS 9 or later, you can make it even more difficult for someone with access to your iPhone to view your WhatsApp conversations.
How to keep WhatsApp secure with Face ID or Touch ID
These are the steps you need to follow:
- Open WhatsApp and tap the Settings tab.
- Tap Account, then tap Privacy.
- Tap Screen Lock, then enable Require Face ID or Require Touch ID.
- Select the length of time you will allow WhatsApp to remain to unlocked after it is closed.
- Confirm you want to enabled Face ID or Touch ID for WhatsApp by tapping OK.
Now, there are some important things to be aware of after enabling this feature. One of those is that it will still be possible to reply to read and reply to WhatsApp messages via notifications if your settings allow it.
Whats more, just like iPhone itself, WhatsApp will accept a passcode when Face ID or Touch ID fail. Enabling this feature won’t prevent someone who knows your passcode from accessing your messages.
How to disable Face ID or Touch ID
If you later decide you no longer want to protect WhatsApp with Face ID or Touch ID, you can disable it by simply repeating the above process and disabling Require Face ID or Require Touch ID.
