Only M3 models are being discounted to notable all-time low prices during this sale, although the higher-end M3 Pro and M3 Max MacBook Pros are seeing a few second-best prices. I'm pretty tempted to get this... but then, the M4 MacBook Pro is probably coming out later this year, so it's quite a dilemma. ?

8GB of RAM is good on an Apple Silicon MacBook. Anyone who says otherwise has no idea what they are talking about. For the vast majority of people buying computers, they won't suffer any slowdown on 8GB. I even went through a list of the AAA games on Mac, and most of them use around 4GB-6GB, the ones that pushed RAM the most used 7GB. There wasn't one game I could find that could push past 8GB total system usage during game play on the APUs that offer 8GB builds....

That being said... Apple was out of their mind to think anyone was going to buy a $1800 Pro device with 8GB RAM. For the people spending that money on a laptop, they need the RAM. They will use the RAM. 8GB is simply unacceptable. $1800 is not for the average consumer to play around on the web and do lite photo and video editing. Spend $1800 on a laptop and you have a mission in mind.

No wonder this is already $200 off. What are you possibly doing that demands 1TB onboard storage, but only 8GB RAM? Media editors keep their media on external drives after the edit. Same with people pirating movies or people with large home movie collections. This spec is absolutely useless.

This sale ($200 off the 16GB unit) largely solves the complaints seen in the other mega thread about 8GB being too little and people (rightly) annoyed at being charged $200 to upgrade from 8Gb to 16GB.
Sure, until you remember the regular price of the MBA M3 16 GB/512 GB is $1499.

The MBP M3 has some perks over it (the full 1 TB of storage and better screen), but it's still a tough sell.

And then the M5 MacBook Pro will be on the near horizon as well. You can't think like this when it comes to consumer tech, or else you'll never buy or be satisfied with anything. If you need it, get it. If not, don't.
