To mark Black History Month, Apple is releasing a limited-edition Apple Watch Series 6, among other things.
Apple’s Black Unity Collection includes a new Apple Watch Series 6, a Black Unity Sport Band and a Unity watch face. The watch features the words “Black Unity” laser-etched onto the back crystal, while the strap — inspired by the Pan-African flag — includes the words “Truth. Power. Solidarity.”
Updated: Starting today, the first day of Black History Month, you can order the Black Unity edition Apple Watch Series 6. It starts at $399 for GPS only, while the GPS + Cellular version begins at $499.
The Black Unity Sport Band retails for $49. The Unity watch face shipped with watchOS 7.3 last week.
Black History Month on every Apple platform
That’s not all Apple’s doing to commemorate Black History Month. Throughout February, the App Store Black History Month Hub will highlight Black-owned businesses, developers and entertainment offerings, as well as social justice apps. The App Store will also host stories about Black developers talking up importance of representation.
Other platforms, such as Apple Music, Apple Music TV, Apple Fitness+, Apple Books, Apple TV+, Apple Podcasts, Apple Maps Guides and Apple News, will highlight contributions from Black creators and businesses.
This focus on Black history will permeate just about every Apple platform. For example, there will be a new “Shot on iPhone” campaign called “Hometown,” highlighting the work of Black photographers especially commissioned by Apple.
Finally, there’s a new Apple Watch Activity Challenge for Black History Month. This will offer users a limited-edition badge if they hit their Move targets seven days running.
Supporting organizations around the world
Apple recently announced a series of new projects as part of its Racial Equity and Justice Initiative. These are designed to fight systemic racism and advance racial equity across the United States, with the aid of a $100 million Apple fund.
In a Tuesday press release, Apple announced some of the other organizations it is working with for Black History Month:
“As part of this effort, Apple is supporting six global organizations to help advance their missions in promoting and achieving equality and civil rights in the US and around the world: Black Lives Matter Support Fund via the Tides Foundation; European Network Against Racism; International Institute on Race, Equality and Human Rights; Leadership Conference Education Fund; NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc.; and Souls Grown Deep.”
