$700 Mac Pro wheels really suck for skateboarding

For a mere $699, you can add a set of wheels to the Mac Pro. Or, for the same stunning amount of money, you can attach those wheels to a skateboard.

Braille Skateboarding did just that. Watch the ridiculous video they created.

Obviously, the Mac Pro wheels were never meant to be mounted on a skateboard. So a sizable percentage of the video is tinkering just to get the wheels connected.

The final creation is hardly standard. Because Apple’s wheels rotate 180 degrees, while skateboard wheels don’t rotate at all, the result is, in the words of Braille Skateboarding “the most dangerous thing ever.” Still, after a few tries, they managed to pull off a successful kickflip.

Their jury-rigged mounts quickly broke, though the wheels held up to the punishment. But the skaters next rejigger the wheels so they couldn’t rotate, allowing them to do some basic tricks.

A skateboard built with Mac Pro wheels is functional. Sort of.

And all for only $700 — approximately 17 times the cost of normal set of skateboard wheels.

For an alternative version, Unbox Therapy made its own skateboard with these pricy add ones.

Mac Pro wheels aren’t for skateboards

In April, Apple quietly added a Mac Pro Wheels Kit to its online store, giving owners of the 2019 Mac Pro the option to retroactively add wheels if they didn’t choose the option when the machine was originally purchased. As noted, they cost $699.

Adding wheels to this workstation before purchase adds $400 to the price.
