Amazing Mac Pro concept shrinks the casing but keeps the cheese grater
If the Mac Pro and the Mac mini had a baby, it might look like this concept.

A concept artist took the rumors about an Mac Pro desktop with Apple Silicon and created a design that might really be what’s on the drawing board.

The concept combines the look of the current Mac Pro tower with the Mac mini to create a unique device.

It’s the creation of Róbert Hallon from svetapple.sk, who took his inspiration from tipster Jon Prosser, who reported in February that Apple is working on what he dubbed the Mac Pro mini. This is supposedly equivalent to “three to four Mac minis stacked on top of each other,” according to Prosser.

But Hallon didn’t want to give up the “cheese grater” ventilation grills from the 2019 Mac Pro tower, so he incorporated them into his design. The same goes for the handles.

Professionals needing serious computing power are probably already looking ahead to a Mac Pro built around an Apple M-series processor. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg , the Mac-maker will use chips with dozens of CPU and graphics cores.

“A redesigned Mac Pro is planned to come in 20 or 40 computing core variations, made up of 16 high-performance or 32 high-performance cores and four or eight high-efficiency cores,” said Gurman. “The chips would also include either 64 core or 128 core options for graphics.”

Hallon’s concept for the device includes a cornucopia of ports. He suggests, “6x USB-C Thunderbold 3 port, 4x USB-A port, 2x HDMI, 2x Ethernet and 1 MagSafe charging port.”

Or the Mac Pro… Pro?

The Mac Pro mini isn’t the only professional-grade desktop Apple is allegedly working on. Prosser reports his sources tell him that there’ll be a version of the Mac Pro that keeps the same general tower design as the 2019 Mac Pro.

The smaller version shown in the svetapple.sk concept would be for people who don’t need to attach a couple of Radeon Pro Vega II Duo MPX Modules, which is possible with the tower.

And those looking for a powerful macOS desktop might also be interested in a rumored iMac supposedly on the docket. This will allegedly be the replacement for the current 27-inch model, and it might sport a next-generation Apple M2 chip and a screen perhaps as big as 32 inches.
