Add season two of Truth Be Told to the list of Apple TV+ summer 2021 offerings. Octavia Spencer returns as the star of the crime drama series, and Kate Hudson joins for the new season.

Apple dropped a teaser trailer Wednesday to whet fans’ appetites. Watch it now.

Truth Be Told uses the fascination with true-crime podcasts

Spencer plays Poppy Parnell, a true-crime podcaster. In season two, the cold case she’s investigating is the murder of the husband of her childhood friend Micah Keith (played by Hudson), who’s now a media mogul. Parnell finds herself conflicted between pursuing justice and protecting her friend.

The tagline for the upcoming season is, “Can you ever truly trust someone to keep your secrets safe?”

If crime drama is your thing, the complete Truth Be Told season one is available to stream on Apple TV+. It follows Parnell as she reopens the murder case of a young man (Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul) she may have mistakenly helped put in prison. It garnered a 71% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though critics gave a 31% approval rating.

Watching either season of Truth Be Told requires a $4.99-per-month subscription. Along with that comes plenty more series and films, including thrillers, comedies, sci-fi, documentaries and more.
