In the ongoing discussion about whether a gargantuan ultra-wide monitor beats dual monitors or vice versa, some people still chime in favoring one modest display to either of the above choices. Of course, these days, “modest” can mean in excess of 30 inches, plus a lot of bells and whistles.

Redditor c2cherry recently moved to Thailand to get married. He posted his WFH mac setup featuring a 2020 M1 MacBook Air and a 12.9-inch iPad Pro from the same year, paired with an impressive Dell U4021QW UltraSharp Curved 5K Monitor.
His cool array of peripherals includes a Logitech MX Master 2s Wireless Mouse and a Melgeek Mojo60 Moss RGB Mechanical Keyboard.
A grownup setup in kiddie corner
It’s an impressive setup, considering where it is.
“I recently finished setting up my temporary WFH desk,: c2cherry said. “I wish I had my own cool room like all of you with all the mancave decor, but I’m currently setup in the corner of my 6-year-old kid’s room until he starts sleeping in his room, lol.”
Hey, that’s not bad, considering it’s taking up a corner of the kid’s room. We hope the kid’s mellow, because we’ve heard a youngster that age can actually do a lot of damage.
Anxiously awaiting Universal Control
C2cherry sports a 40-inch Dell UltraSharp monitor on an Ergosmith ARM8s monitor arm. He said he runs his iPad via Sidecar, but he really has more than enough screen real estate on the desktop just with the monstrously wide display.
Still, he’s looking forward to Universal Control, which will allow him to navigate multiple screens with one keyboard and mouse.
“I have more than enough real estate with my 40-inch screen,” he said. “I’ve been waiting for a year now for Universal Control though … been downloading every single beta for [macOS Monterey] to complete disappointment … MacBook stays on the desk connected to my monitor.”
He said he runs the big Dell screen at 3008 x 1269 pixel resolution with SwitchResX, an app for adjusting screen resolution. He’s been frustrated with Dell in that regard.
“Dell Display Manager is still not available for Mac as of right now. Dell said they will be coming out with the macOS version at the end of this month, I have it on my calendar, but I feel like I’m going to be disappointed lol.”
Too much monitor, though?
If he had it to do over again, he said he might buy a considerably smaller display.
“If I knew what I know now and could turn back time, I think I would save some money and get a smaller monitor. It’s just way bigger than necessary. I think a 34-inch screen is more than enough for most people,” he said.
Yes, considering that plenty of folks still find a 32-inch TV in the corner of their living room good enough, a 34-inch monitor a foot or two from your face on your desk is probably fine.
