The new OWC miniStack STX hub stacks seamlessly with a Mac mini, adding storage capacity and a trio of Thunderbolt 4 ports. But it can be used to expand connectivity and add storage space to any Mac or iPad.

The OWC miniStack STX features three Thunderbolt 4 ports and a universal 2.5-inch drive bay. And it also offers a NVMe M.2 SSD slot so you have storage capacity expansion options. You can order the device with or without added storage capacity.

Its rollout follows the release, just days ago, of the high-speed, high-capacity Accelsior 8M2 PCIe solid state drive.

Expand with the OWC miniStack STX

Using the miniStack’s three Thunderbolt 4 ports, you can add three independent chains with as many as five Thunderbolt, USB or display devices. And you can remove devices from one chain without affecting the others, OWC said.

An aluminum chassis, an internal heat sink and an efficient fan allow the miniStack to run cool and nearly silently, the company said.

High speed storage

The miniStack features file transfer speeds up to 770MB/s, making it good for heavy workflows. That includes work like photo and video editing or running virtual machines, OWC said. Users can edit, save and access multimedia content with near-zero latency, the company added.

Though it works with any Mac, iPad, PC or Chromebook, the OWC miniStack is designed as a Mac mini companion. It makes perfect sense as such, since newer Mac mini models stopped including upgradeable internal drives.

You can preorder the OWC miniStack STX now. Prices start at $299.00 without additional storage included. Shipping commences in mid-December, the company said.

Price: $299 and up for added storage
