Apple Pixel Park (But Night)

Nighttime descends on Apple Pixel Park.

A month back, I released Apple Pixel Park, a wallpaper collection featuring the six-colour stage inside the courtyard of Apple Park, backed by the circular campus itself in the background. It was one of my first forays into pixel art and something that I was pretty proud of having created.

In it’s native 501× 282 resolution, the finished image is just 25 KB in size.

At just over half the size of a 512-pixel icon (501 by 282), it's the smallest design I've created and one of my most ambitious. The original design challenged me to learn how to draw, shade and set up a complex scene with minimal pixels and a constrained colour palette while maintaining a sense of depth and vitality.

Many hours went into the process of turning Apple Pixel Park from day into night.

In followup to the original, I have created a nighttime version of the Apple Pixel Park to complete the series. While it helped to have the daytime wallpaper already made, creating the nighttime version turned out to be a lot more elaborate than just turning down the exposure on the original. First, it involved picking out a colour palette that gave off a darker nighttime vibe while remaining vibrant and coordinated to the original. Next, I made adjustments like removing shadows, adding stars, and changing the lighting inside Apple Park to suit the nighttime ambience of the composition.

So, once more, I hope you enjoy the 173,250 pixels that make up this nighttime version of Apple Pixel Park. The wallpaper have been made for the iPad, iPhone, and Mac, with a light/dark mode .heic file is also included that'll dynamically change as you switch your Mac between light & dark mode. Enjoy.
