After seeing this article, I almost pulled the trigger on an iPad mini 6 256GB from Amazon for $539.99. But I decided to check Micro Center, since I have one about 20 minutes away. They have the same pricing, but I noticed they had an open-box Mini 6 256GB in space gray for $458.96. Almost $200 less than Apple’s price. So I reserved it and rushed over there as soon as I got the email saying it was ready to pick up. I looked it over, since you don’t always know the cosmetic condition of an open-box item. It was perfect, as if it hadn’t been used. So I bought it and took it home.

I’ve always been a fan of the iPad mini, and couldn’t wait for them to give it the iPad Pro-like design. But man, I wasn’t ready to pay $649 for it. I’m glad I waited to find a deal like this. But I still had my 2018 iPad Pro 256GB and my iPad Mini 5 to hold me over, so the wait wasn’t so bad.

After setting it up and using it for a bit, I’m really liking it. Yes, I do notice the “jelly effect” while scrolling in portrait mode, but I don’t think it’s as bad as some people make it out to be. And I’m used to pro-motion on my iPad Pro and my 13 Pro. The jelly effect just doesn’t bother me.

All in all, I’m really glad I waited a bit for sale prices like this.
Wow. That’s an incredible price. Nice score. Hell, even this Amazon price drop is worthy. I got my mini on an earlier (February) Amazon price drop (tho not as steep). It is, hands down, my fav iPad I’ve owned to date (I have owned almost every iteration of iPad, save the Pros). For anyone on the fence about acquiring one, especially at this price, I’m here to gently push you over the edge. Go for it! It’s an incredible little
iPad. And yes: while I can see the jelly scroll, it’s honestly such a non-issue for me. The rest of the experience by far outweighs this slight issue that occurs in maybe .01% of my usage. YMMV.

Thanks - I should have been more specific. I'm a low data user (<3-4 GB) and use the cheaper pre-paid plans. Every time I compare buying a discounted phone from the carrier with the obligatory 36 month premium plan against buying the phone myself with a 36 month prepaid plan it's always cheaper to buy the phone myself. I've just noticed the current model iPhones (almost) never go on sale like most other things from Apple do.

I keep seeing Apple's current model iPads, Macs, Watches, accessories (earphones etc.) all being discounted from time to time by Amazon, BestBuy etc. etc. However, I can't say I recall ever seeing current model iPhones on sale. Is that right?
Usually deals on phones happen through the carriers. They don't discount the unlocked versions as often.
