Apple is partnering with Mercedes-Benz to bring Apple Music’s Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos support to select Mercedes vehicles. The feature will be immediately available to Apple Music subscribers with compatible cars.

Apple Music has been available on Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system since 2021.

Enjoy Spatial Audio in Apple Music on select Mercedes vehicles

Owners of Mercedes-Maybach, EQS, EQS SUV, EQE, and the S-Class equipped with the optional 31-speaker Burmester sound system can enjoy Spatial Audio on Apple Music. This is the first time Apple has expanded Apple Music’s Spatial Audio capabilities to a non-Apple device.

“We’re joining forces to offer our customers a benchmark music experience unparalleled in the industry. We are proud that our vehicles will be the first-ever non-Apple devices to feature immersive Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. This seamless experience shows how in-car entertainment can reach exciting new levels by perfectly integrating hardware and software,” said Markus Schäfer, Mercedes-Benz Group AG’s chief technology officer.

Spatial Audio delivers audio in a 3D surround sound space. Currently, Spatial Audio in Apple Music is available on selected Macs, Apple TVs, HomePod, AirPods/Pro, and AirPods Max.

Coming first to Mercedes-Maybach by Virgil Abloh

The limited edition Mercedes-Maybach by Virgil Abloh, launched in September 2021, is the first car to get Spatial Audio in Apple Music. It features a high-end 31-speaker Burmester 4D sound system, including an 18.5-liter subwoofer, eight sound transducers, two amplifiers, and 1,750 watts of power. Other compatible cars in the Mercedes lineup will get the feature soon.

Audi also natively supports Apple Music across its entire 2022 vehicle lineup, letting you access your music library through your car’s infotainment system. But unlike Mercedes, it is yet to add Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos compatibility.
